I had the honor of joining friends for the most epic elopement in the heart of Tulum, Mexico. As a destination wedding photographer from Pennsylvania, I was stoked to pack my bags for a wild ride capturing the most unconventional love story in Tulum!

The Journey to Tulum, Mexico

Touching down in Cancun, I left the hustle and bustle of the city behind, hopped in my rental and rolled through the tropical vibes for an hour and a half until I hit the destination: Altar Tulum – a place that screamed “romance!” The architecture was like a love letter to aesthetics, setting the perfect stage for the love story about to unfold. I was so glad to be here in this peaceful, secluded, quiet place! Everywhere I looked were cute little eateries and slow living. It was such a breath of fresh air!

Making the Elopement Day Theirs

The big day arrived, and let me tell you, the air was charged with excitement. Jairo and Gretka were getting ready in separate rooms of a cozy Airbnb and brought all the feels. First touch, first look – it was a romance novel playing out in real life, against the dreamy backdrop of Tulum. Let me tell you guys: Jairo and Gretka are so dope. They were completely natural, comfortable, and excited to be together. Their fun personalities were so contagious and it was such a blast celebrating them in Mexico!

Vows were exchanged with the warm breeze as witness, and we couldn’t resist throwing in some tequila shots to spice things up and give a nod to the local culture – because why not? When in Mexico!

The Day After Shoot

But hold on, the adventure didn’t stop there. The day after was all about jungle vibes. Our couple, inspired by their serendipitous meeting, decided to channel their inner Tarzan and Jane. Jairo’s mom even calls him “Mowgli,” and, trust me, he lived up to it as we frolicked in the jungle.

Taking a dip in the crystal-clear cenotes, surrounded by ancient trees, was like a scene from a fairy tale! As I clicked away, it wasn’t just about taking pictures. It was about telling their story – a story of love that’s wild, unconventional, and free-spirited. Every shot framed against Tulum’s beauty, showcasing not just their love, but the essence of who they are.
